Did You Know? Guyana Facts

A few things that make our beautiful country special.

The Golden Arrowhead, flag of Guyana

The Golden Arrowhead points forward as a symbol of progress: green for our forests, gold for mineral wealth, and red for the energy of nation-building.

The Canje Pheasant, national bird of Guyana

Our national bird, the Canje Pheasant (Hoatzin), hatches with tiny claws on its wings so chicks can climb trees before they can fly.

Guyana is the only English-speaking country in South America, though Guyanese Creole is spoken widely day to day. Kaieteur Falls is one of the tallest single-drop waterfalls on Earth, and more than 80% of the country is covered in pristine rainforest.
